Rona Faye Levin, PhD, RN, Lienhard School of Nursing/Education and Clinical Development, Pace University/Visiting Nurse Service of New York, Pleasantville, NY, USA
The joint position, which was created by Pace University,
Lienhard School of Nursing and the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY), provides for 50% of the
appointee's time to be devoted to each organization. Currently, the individual
in the role is professor and project director of a funded evidence-based
practice initiative at the school of nursing and visiting faculty in the
Department of Education and Clinical Development at the VNSNY. The academic
role entails fulfilling half the responsibilities of a full-time faculty
member, the functions of which may vary from teaching courses and participating
in committee work to faculty and curricular enhancement in the EBP arena; the
service role entails facilitating evidence-based practice educational
activities and working on educational and research projects. Many examples of
these activities will be discussed in detail and include working with the
nurses (clinical advisors) who conduct the nurse internship program at the
VNSNY to enhance their EBP skills for the purpose of integrating EBP concepts
and behaviors into the internship program. On the academic side, the joint
appointee has been working with newly hired clinical faculty members to design
new EBP focused clinical learning activities. In addition to the specific
activities involved with this new role, the joint appointee in the role will
provide a personal reflection on the skills needed to introduce a new role into
an organization.
