Amy J. Vratny, RN, MSN, Clinical and Patient Education, Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale, AZ, USA and Teri Britt Pipe, PhD, RN, Nursing Research, Mayo Clinic in Arizona, Phoenix, AZ, USA.
Learning Objective #1: Describe the process of developing a unit based EBP champion program.
Learning Objective #2: Identify outcomes of implementing a unit based EBP champion program.

The nursing research committee at Mayo Clinic designed and implemented a program to encourage an evidence-based nursing environment. Nurses from several inpatient and ambulatory nursing departments were recruited as unit based nursing research champions. Members of the nursing research committee served as mentors for the unit based research champions, assisting them to develop EBP strategies in each department. The process of designing and implementing the EBP champion program will be discussed, as well as the outcomes of the unit based EBP initiatives.
