Care Needs and their Related Factors for Patients with
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate care needs and related factors for patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The study was a retrospective experimental design. Their medical records were reviewed by using constructive scales. Tools included baseline characteristics and care needs scale to be applied in the study. Experts validity were used to assess the content validity, and reliability of the study and determined by Cronbach's α .902. The respiratory care need scores were the highest rank(mean=6.38). In addition, metabolic care needs scores(mean=4.47) was the highest rank of medical care needs. Moreover, patient’s age, education, hospitalization days, endo tracheal tube and outcome are positive correlated to physical, nursing and total care needs(p<.05). The predictors were related to entire total care needs including ventilator-carried days, complication and hospitalization days. The covariance is 62.5%. Our findings might provide information for health care providers to understand SARS patients’ care needs, in order to deliver better quality of medical and nursing care.
