Learning Objective #2: The learner will be able to understand the factors related to creative thinking of RN-BSN students.

Education, research, and executive departments of Taiwan have emphasized creative thinking since 2000. Without exception, when facing the chao and change medical environments, nurses also need the ability of creative thinking to overcome the uncertain health problems of the patients by designing  problem-solving interventions creatively in clinical situations. To cultivate nurses’ creative thinking should start from nursing school and first to understand their creative thinking. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to describe the creative thinking of RN-BSN students. Total 90 RN-BSN students were participated in this study. Four open-ended questions were included in the questionnaire and content validity has been established by three experts. Creative thinking were coded as the abilities of fluency and flexibility of responded data by a graduate student and inter-rater reliability between the researcher and coder has approached at .84  Results indicated that 85.7% of RN-BSN students self-reported their creative thinking level ranged from 4 to 7 in a 10-point visual scale. Besides, through Pearson r,  the ability of fluency is significantly related to flexibility. By single factor of multivariate analysis, age, working experiences, and type of personality were significantly related to the ability of fluency in question 2. Additionally, working experiences was significantly related to the ability of flexibility in question 2. Furthermore, type of personality was significantly related to the abilities of fluency and flexibility in question 1 as well as the ability of flexibility in question 4. In conclusion, 90 RN-BSN students’ creative thinking level is in the middle range and those who have higher ability of fluency will have better flexibility that may be influenced by age, working experiences, and type of personality.
