Career Building for Nurse Retention
Learning Objective #1: Identify the key components for improving the worklife of nurses.
Learning Objective #2: Understand the professional role of the nurse leader within a healthcare setting.
Funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA); 2003-2008. The goal of this project is to improve nurse retention and recruitment by improving the work environment, providing career counseling, and leadership and management development. Designing and implementing of evidence-based research affords a tremendous opportunity for nurses to explore and examine their beliefs about their practice, their role in patient care, and their role in creating a positive, effective, and efficient work environment. We will discuss the challenges that we've met along the way. This presentation will focus on ways to identify organizational attributes and develop improvement programs and other work environment strategies. This presentation will also discuss strategies aimed at improving leadership and management competencies and implementing and measuring the impact of the administrative nursing leadership certificate program. There will also be a portion on developing the 'emerging' leaders of an organization and succession planning.
