Learning Objective #1: be aware of the importance of a possibility for nurses to achieve the highest level of education.
Learning Objective #2: recognize the importance of qualifications for research work.

In most European countries, especially the developed ones is a tendency towards the inclusion of nursing programs in universities and the possibility of acquiring qualifications for research work.

When preparing a new curriculum and above all at its realization, the same question is posed to teachers: Do the students have this opportunity or will they have it in the future?

How to make sure that educational objectives are achieved, that students gain enough modern knowledge (not only about their profession but interdisciplinary), have they attained the required skills for independent and competent performing of nursing interventions, are they confident enough, are they mature personalities with a positive professional image. Teachers are trying to get answers to these and other questions regarding the assessment of the quality of study and its performers by means of different forms of self-evaluation. Important answers are offered also by students doing research for their diploma papers.

Some results of three surveys which were carried out by students preparing their diploma paper will be presented.

Actually an unsuccessful endeavor and demonstration that there should be a possibility for nurses to achieve the highest level of education within their profession concerns the authors of the program more and more.

Students who enter university can expect to gain theoretical and methodological knowledge for a certain profession. At the same time the objective of university education is to qualify students for independent, professional work, critical judgment and ability to implement the acquired knowledge.

Teachers at the College for Health Studies faced with two tasks: extending the education to higher level and preparation of masters and specialist studies in accordance with the needs of nursing practice and the Bologna process.

Key words: nursing, education.
