Learning Objective #2: recognize the importance of qualifications for research work. |
In most European countries,
especially the developed ones is a tendency towards the inclusion of nursing
programs in universities and the possibility of acquiring qualifications for
research work.
When preparing a new
curriculum and above all at its realization, the same question is posed to
teachers: Do the students have this opportunity or will they have it in the
future?
How to make sure that
educational objectives are achieved, that students gain enough modern knowledge
(not only about their profession but interdisciplinary), have they attained the
required skills for independent and competent performing of nursing
interventions, are they confident enough, are they mature personalities with a
positive professional image. Teachers are trying to get answers to these and
other questions regarding the assessment of the quality of study and its
performers by means of different forms of self-evaluation. Important answers
are offered also by students doing research for their diploma papers.
Some results of three surveys
which were carried out by students preparing their diploma paper will be
presented.
Actually an unsuccessful
endeavor and demonstration that there should be a possibility for nurses to
achieve the highest level of education within their profession concerns the
authors of the program more and more.
Students who enter university
can expect to gain theoretical and methodological knowledge for a certain
profession. At the same time the objective of university education is to
qualify students for independent, professional work, critical judgment and
ability to implement the acquired knowledge.
