Learning Objective #2: predict hemodialysis patients depression and hope status. |
The number of patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) tends to be increasing gradually in Taiwan. It has been reported that the prevalence of the ESRD patient with hemodialysis is rated the second in the world. Patients with ESRD have to rely on hemodialysis and renal transplantation to maintain their lives. They tend to endure a number of physical, psychological, and social distresses while they are receiving hemodialysis treatment. Particularly, patients would often accompany with depression and anxiety due to somatic symptom disturbances following the sequent treatment. This research aims are to investigate patients’ somatic symptoms disturbance, depression, hope status and its related factors. The cross-section study will be conducted. A purposive sampling will be used and subjects will be recruited from a hemodialysis center and a nephrological ward in a medical center in northern Taiwan. Structured questionnaires which include the Demographic Data Form, Somatic Symptoms Disturbance, blood biochemical data, Taiwanese Depression Scale and Herth Hope Index are employed in this study. Data will be analyzed by descriptive analysis, ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation.
It is expected that the result of this research will assist nurses to facilitate hemodialysis patients’ coping skills in maintaining and improving their degree of hope, decreasing their physical discomfort derived from long-term hemodialysis treatment, and further improving their quality and values of life.
