Learning Objective #1: understand the effectiveness of application music therapy on cardiovascular patients in intensive Care unit (ICU).
Learning Objective #2: understand the anxiety level of application music therapy on cardiovascular patients in intensive Care unit (ICU).

The purpose of the study was to examine effectiveness of application music therapy on cardiovascular patients in intensive Care unit (ICU). A Quasi-Experimental Design was used in the study.

This study was conducted at a teaching hospital from Sep. 1, 2004 to March 30, 2005. The subject group consisted of 60 cardiovascular patients. The subjects were divided into two groups, 30 subjects in each group. The subjects in the experimental group received music therapy and another subjects in the control group received the routine care. Music therapy regarded to participants' preference music. A list of the works of music chosen by the participants was complied. All pieces were collected on CDs. Instruments used included cardiovascular patients' demographic data and vital signs. In addition, anxiety scale was used and scored between 0 and 4. The higher score of anxiety scale indicated more anxiety. SPSS for Windows 10.0 was used to analyze data.

Following music therapy application, results showed that: 1)the majority of age was 71 years old (45.2%), under elementary level of education was 66.3%, 50.0% had smoking and drinking, and no-job was 73.3%. 2) the mean blood pressure and temperature value was 121.3mmHg and 36.4°C in the experimental group and 122.7 mmHg and 36.7°C in the control group, respectively. 3) the mean anxiety scale was 2.95 in the experimental group and was 3.20 in the control group. 4) the experimental group was significantly less blood pressure, temperature value, and anxiety scale.

Results lead researchers to conclude that implementing music therapy could effectively decrease anxiety on cardiovascular patients in intensive Care unit. Study results should be provided to nurses as a reference when care the cardiovascular patients.
