Establishing the Correlation between Well-Being and Presenting Symptomatology in Persons Who Have Cancer
Frances R. Anderson, PhD, RN, Nursing, Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital, Inc, Binghamton, NY, USA

This study examines the correlation between scores on the Well-Being Picture Scale (WPS) and the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI), a measure of presenting symptomatology, in persons who have recently been diagnosed with cancer and are receiving health care services, including hospice home care, inpatient oncology, and outpatient radiation oncology. Those who agree to be in the study are asked to complete a one page participant profile, the 10-item WPS, and the 18-item BSI. The study represents research collaboration between Lourdes Memorial Hospital, Inc. and the Decker School of Nursing, at Binghamton University, in Binghamton, New York.
