Learning Objective 1: The learner will be able to improve the patient's recognition about the operation

Learning Objective 2: The learner will be able to decrease the anxiety and increase the compliance of patients during the urinary tract endoscopy surgery

Purpose:

It’s very important that operative nurses provide the pre-operative education for patients and families . That can improve the operative care quality. The purposes of this study are to compare the cognition, anxiety and satisfaction of the patients before and after the group education with multimedia videodisc.

Methods:

A quasi-experiment research design was used for the study. The purposive sampling was implemented in the study. 65 subjects for urinary tract endoscope were recruited into either the experimental group (n=35) or the control group (n=30). The change of cognition and anxiety of patients were measured in all patients preoperatively. The experimental group was educated with intervention. Then, the satisfaction of intervention was evaluated after surgery.

 Results:

1.The difference of cognition between the two groups was significantly improvement (t=2.38; p<.001). 2. The experimental group has lower anxiety during operation, but no significance difference (t=1.46; p>.05). 3. There is higher satisfaction rate in the experimental group (91.4%).

 Conclusion:

The study showed the group education with multimedia videodisc can improve the patient’s recognition about the operation, and helpful to decrease the anxiety and increase the compliance of patients during the urinary tract endoscopy surgery.
