The purpose of the program was to foster coordinators for disaster nursing. Six aims were that participants able to : ① explain disaster nursing including the importance of coordinators for disaster nursing, ② explain the role and the provision of medical care as well as the role of medical facilities at the response/relief stage of disaster, ③ explain the role of nurses and nursing care at the stage of mid- and long- term after disasters, ④ explain the role of nurses and nursing care at the stage of the preparedness for disasters, ⑤ explain how to formulate programs for capacity building and how to disseminate disaster nursing, and ⑥ obtain the knowledge and skills required for disaster nursing coordinators in the related organizations. Participants visited the WHO Kobe centre, Japanese Red Cross Society, Japanese Nursing Association, Hyogo Emergency Medical Center, and others to achieve the aims. Participants made self – assessment by a checklist for core competency of disaster nursing with four rating grades developed by us. They rated for two or three before the training. After the training, they rated their level for three or four. After the program, participants got and disseminated the skill and knowledge about disaster nursing in their home country.
