Health care is stuggling to understand the inordinate amount of variation that exists not only within the industry, but within each individual organization. Patient safety issues, efficient use of resources, the need for evidence to support the relationship between clinical intervention and patient outcomes have all been newsworthy topics of interest to the public. Moreover, they have created a burning platform for change within each and every organization that offers health care services.

Outcomes Management is a key component of the solution we all seek. Measurement and evaluation within a successful System-Wide Outcomes Management program requires sound statistical methodology used in concert with scientific research methods. This program will offer the participant the opportunity to gain a better understanding of what measurement and evaluation techniques should be used in an outcomes management program. Starting with the design of the outcomes question and working through each step of the process, this program will illustrate appropriate measurement and evaluation methods for each phase of the program. Using a performance improvement model (Plan/Do/Study/Act), participants will then actively engage in exercises designed to enhance their ability to use the information learned in their own organizations.
