This chapter-related event was hosted by the Beta Chi Chapter. During strategic planning meetings, the chapter board agreed that focusing on one of the UN Sustainable Goals would demonstrate the commitment of the chapter to impact global health and support the mission of Sigma. The Board agreed to support SDG #6 Clean Water and Sanitation. The Board decided to focus both regionally and internationally on clean water and sanitation. Internationally, the charity water.org was researched and accepted for a two-year fundraising effort beginning FY17. This event was planned not only as to initiate this endeavor, but as an opportunity for student and nurse leader recruitment; and just plain fun! The Board agreed to hold the event in August just as the school semester was beginning. This ensured that nurses and students were not on vacation; to allow for better advertising. The event was free for members and a nominal fee was charged for guests. A water jug was set up for fees and donations. All guests were instructed to wear a wig of their chosing. As guests arrived, they were encouraged to give themselves a fun name and write it on their name tag. Five categories were established to recognize the most colorful, wackiest, best short wig, best long wig, and most natural. Light snacks were served, including various wines. A stemless wineglass was given to each guest. The glasses had the logo on it along with the chapter name. Voting was completed by each guest socializing with each other and then writing the 'fun name' on a card. The card was then placed in a container labeled with specific categories. A grand champion wig was also chosen. This selection was made by attendees pinning money on the guest they for which they wanted to cast their vote. Votes were tallied, money was counted; and prizes were awarded (water bottles). All monies from guest fees, votes and water jug collections were donated to water.org. This event raised just over $300 to begin the fundraising effort. Fun and laughter were had by all. Pictures were taken and memories made. The overall event was a huge success and served to provide a fun-filled night for raising money and socializing.
