Formalizing the process for collecting evidence , conducting research in the absence of evidence and collaborating with colleagues from affiliated academic centers has been shown to increase the success of EBP. A committed administration and a house-wide committee with a common goal i.e. bring evidence to the point of care, ensures success of an EBP program. The first step was to design an EBP Intranet Page available to all bedside clinicians. This resource contains links to academic evidence centers, the Guideline Clearinghouse, and specialty organization links to best practice. This site is accessible from any computer in the system. Step two was to develop a process for converting all procedures and clinical practice guidelines to evidence-based. The EBP committee began by educating procedure, practice, education and quality committees on the importance of practice grounded in evidence. The EBP committee focused on educating champions and assigning them a practice question designated by any of the hospital committees as part of their certification process. This created an EBP infrastructure that insures on-going immersion in the process. Limited time by the project coordinator and the nurse researcher can be a barrier in the EBP campaign. An advisory council is being created. Affiliations with local colleges and universities for education of nursing and other allied health care professionals presented an opportunity to collaborate with faculty and share resources for education on multiple levels and opportunities for students to participate in EBP initiatives. The program is a win-win endeavor. Students learn EBP in the hospital setting and faculty can participate in on-going research efforts in the area of their expertise. This presentation will focus on multiple efforts to integrate evidence into practice including resources at the point of care, methods for rewarding and empowering staff, maintaining the momentum and engaging all staff in evidence-based practice.
