Evidence-Based Outcome Measurement: How RNs and NPs Influence Patient's Satisfaction, Trust, Ratings of Care and Likelihood to Recommend
Learning Objective #1: The learner will be able to employ theory in evidence-based nursing outcome measurement and quality assessment.
Learning Objective #2: The learner will be able to identify nursing care behaviors and their relative influence on patient's trust, ratings of care, satisfaction, and likelihood to recommend.
Employing national random samples, the WSSU nursing faculty presentation team will demonstrate the application of theory and multigroup structural equation modeling in measuring evidence-based nursing and nurse practitioner care outcomes across multiple groups of patients, including internal medicine, pediatric, family practice and Medicaid obstetrical patients. The first presentation will introduce the symposium background, purpose, organization, theoretical framework and measures, and how to employ theory and structural equation modeling in evidence-based nursing outcome measurement and quality assessment. This presentation will also provide an overview multigroup structural equation modeling including its strengths and weaknesses. Using two national random samples of patients, the second presentation demonstrates the measurement and influence of nurse practitioner care behaviors on patient satisfaction, ratings of care, and likelihood to recommend the NP’s practice to others. Employing three national random samples of patients, the third presentation will demonstrate the measurement and influence of nursing care behaviors on Medicaid obstetrical patients’ overall satisfaction, likelihood to recommend the hospital, and ratings of care. The fourth presentation demonstrates measurement and influence of nurse practitioner care behaviors on patient trust, satisfaction, confidence, and likelihood to recommend the nurse practitioner across national random samples of pediatric, internal medicine and family practice patients.
