D 20 SPECIAL SESSION: The Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy (GNLA): A leadership journey for the care of older adults and their families

Description/Overview: Through the partnership between the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International and The John A. Hartford Foundation, the Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy (GNLA) develops nurse’s personal leadership skills via the creation and implementation of innovative clinical projects in their home communities and clinical agencies which benefit the nursing care of older adults. This session will offer a synopsis of the GNLA goals, objectives, structure, learning activities and outcomes of the participant’s leadership journey. The session will also serve as an opportunity for the Geriatric Nursing Leadership Award winner to present his/her work.
Learner Objective #1: Articulate the purpose and goals of the GNLA and describe aspects of the leadership journey from a Fellow’s, Mentor’s and faculty member’s perspective.
Learner Objective #2: Learn about the Geriatric Nursing Leadership Award winner’s work.
