A 15 The International Nurse Faculty Partnership Initiative: The Regis College Haiti Project

Saturday, 16 November 2013: 3:15 PM-4:30 PM
Description/Overview: Regis College School of Nursing, Science and Health Professions has implemented an advanced education program for nursing faculty in Haiti in conjunction with national and international partners. The program addresses the acute nursing faculty shortage in Haiti and aims to improve the overall quality of nursing education and care in Haiti. Research confirms that nurses prepared at the baccalaureate or higher degree level have significantly better patient care outcomes (Aiken, L., JAMA September 26, 2003). This program is designed to enhance the education and credentials of Haitian nursing faculty who will lead in the advancement of nursing education for all nurses in Haiti. During this symposium Regis College faculty will present steps involved in the development and implementation of the master’s program in nursing education in Haiti. Our lead course faculty will describe their work in designing and teaching two hybrid courses, Community Health Nursing and Instructional Methods & Curriculum Design in Nursing Education. Nursing faculty will share first hand experiences working across nations in collaboration with international nursing colleagues to enhance the nursing profession in Haiti through the advancement of education and the creation of leaders. Successes, lessons learned and challenges of this work will be highlighted.
