Saturday, 7 November 2015: 3:15 PM-4:30 PM
Description/Overview: The purpose of this symposium is to share the work of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) North America Region 14. Connecting and engaging members locally, regionally, and globally are important goals of STTI. This symposium will provide an overview of STTI Region 14 experience connecting and engaging STTI members to meet the mission of STTI to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service. The first presentation will describe how the STTI Region 14 Coordinator and Chapters incorporated STTI Mission and the 2013 Presidential Call to Action in their events and activities. The roles that the region coordinator and chapters play in connecting and engaging members locally and globally will be discussed. Additionally, the members of this region initiated multiple projects ranging from promoting health, disaster preparedness training, to empowering nurses. In each of these initiatives, members from the region have collaborated with STTI members and nurse leaders from different leadership levels locally, regionally and globally. The second presentation will describe how a STTI Region 14 member collaborated with STTI members and nurse leaders to provide health education and disaster preparedness training in the USA and Haiti. The third presentation will describe how STTI Region 14 members and nurse leaders developed and operated two Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Master's Degree programs in Haiti. This symposium will provide an overview of the collaborative process associated with successful global initiatives by STTI Region 14 members in the USA and Haiti. Finally, this symposium will show how these global collaborations are advancing world health and celebrating nursing excellence.
