V-ATI: Global Access to NCLEX Review and Remediation for the International Community of Nursing Students
Tanya D. Whitehead, PhD, Adjunct Professor, University of Missouri- Kansas City SON, Assessment Technologies Institute, LLC, Overland Park, KS, USA and Kathryn Meglisch-Tate, RN, MSN, V-ATI Project, Assessment Technologies Institute, LLC, Overland Park, KS, USA.
Learning Objective #1: explain the importance of individual mentoring for international and cross-cultural students in preparing for NCLEX success.
Learning Objective #2: list two benefits American-educated nursing students receive from a directed discussion of patient care with foreign-educated nursing students.

The Virtual ATI (V-ATI) project was conceived and implemented as a part of an international outreach to pre-service nursing students who were experiencing difficulty in passing the NCLEX due to language, cultural or other factors. The apex at which pedagogy and technology meet is a dynamic online platform that optimizes study-time by providing efficient multi-model tools with online and DVD based functions through an interactive Blackboard infrastructure; available 24 hours a day for international access at convenient times from any time zone. An enthusiastic RN educator engages students in intense interaction, provides guidance to students based upon individual study plans, and leads spirited group discussions on patient care issues on an asynchronous basis. During the presentation the authors will review current issues, challenges and outcomes for the first year of operation and provide information on tools used to design the teaching/learning infrastructure, development of learning scenarios and expanding the opportunity for crosscultural/ intercultural experiences that will enhance the competency of the health care professionals of tomorrow.
