The Relationship of Spiritual Health and Depressive Tendency Among Nursing Students in Taiwan

The relationship of spiritual health and depressive tendency among nursing students in Taiwan.Purpose:The purpose of this study is to explore the relationships between spiritual health and depressive tendency among nursing students in Taiwan.Method: Data were collected from a self-administrated survey by using a cross-sectional study design.Two instruments including Spiritual Health Scale and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) were used. A total of 1276 nursing college students with a mean age 20.10 years were recruited from areas of north, central, and south Taiwan. The method of data analysis consisted of describe statistics, Pearson¡¦s correlation, and regression analysis.
Findings: Spiritual health status was significantly negatively correlated with depressive tendency. Spiritual health status was the significant predictor of depressive tendency after controlling socio-demographic characteristics and situational variables. Data in this study showed that spiritual health status could be regarded as a protective factor, an ability of adaptation, a source of social support, and a power to guide people to a meaningful life. It can be an essential factor to influence depressive tendency among nursing college students in Taiwan.
