Evidence-based Practice: Integration of Scholarship and Practice
Susan W. Salmond, EdD, RN, School of Nursing, University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark, NJ, USA and Leslie Rittenmeyer, PsyD, CNS, RN, School of Nursing, Purdue University Calumet, Hammond, IN, USA.

This session will examine the emergence and growth of EBP research and scholarship aimed at guiding practice and policy decisions.  We will examine factors that have contributed to legitimizing as scholarship elements of the evidence based practice process. These elements include evidence translation (appraisal and synthesis of evidence), evidence transfer and utilization. We will especially address the evolution of the systematic review from the synthesis of randomized controlled trials alone to the syntheses of many forms of evidence common to nursing including non-RCT quantitative research, qualitative research, narrative opinion and text, and analysis of cost, technology and utilization assessment.
