Learning Objective #1: identify two methods by which EBP may be integrated into gerontological core and clinical proficiency curriculum. |
Learning Objective #2: The learner will be able to verbalize how integration of EBP will impact care of older adults by nursing students. |
The purpose of this study was to determine whether integration of EBP (evidence based practice) principles into gerontological core and clinical proficiency curriculum positively changed junior first semester nursing student beliefs regarding utilization of evidence based practice when caring for older adults. This was a quantitative, prospective study that was implemented as follows. Information regarding EBP and the study was shared with Junior first semester students during the first N328 Introduction to Gerontological Nursing class. At that time, those students wishing to participate in the study were asked to complete an informed consent form. When done, students who completed the consent were asked to complete two survey scales: the EBP Beliefs Scale and the EBP Implementation Scale. During the semester, students received additional information regarding EBP through student assignments, a project, and skills packets. During class Week 12, students were again asked to complete the same two scales. Using SSPS, the data was analyzed to determine whether changes in student beliefs regarding EBP occurred.
