Learning Objective #1: The learner will be able to know how to develop a tailored exercise program for Parkinson's disease. |
Learning Objective #2: The learner will be able to know the effect of a tailored exercise program on physical fitness in patients with Parkinson's disease. |
Purpose: To develop & to examine the effect of a tailored exercise program(TEP) on physical fitness in patients with Parkinson's disease(PD). Methods: In a two-group pre-and post-test design, a total 41 participants were assigned experimental group(21 participants). The experimental group participated in a 4-day-per week 8week duration, once a week by direct instruction in self-help group and twice a week with videotaped instruction at their home for themselves. While the control group did not any intervention. Results: The eight week TEP in patients with PD turned out significantly effective in enhancing muscle strength, ankle flexibility, and balance. However instrumental activities of daily living was not changed by intervention. Conclusion: This results suggest that TEP can effective on physical fitness in patients with PD. Further research with a larger sample and longer follow up period is needed to expand our understanding about the effects of TEP for patients with PD.
