Learning Objective #1: THE LEANER WILL BE ABLE - TO VERIFY THE LEVEL OF COLONIZATION BY MRSA OF THE NASAL CAVITIES OF MEDICINE STUDENTS;
Learning Objective #2: - TO VERIFY IN THIS STUDY A CORRELATION BETWEEN LEVEL OF COLONIZATION AND THE YEAR OF THE COURSE.

       This study presents the results of an investigation about the colonization of the nasal cavities, of medicine students, by the Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) correlated to the year of their course.
Introduction: The hospital, due to its condition of local permanently frequented by persons of every provenience, is the habitat of nosocomial microbiological flora, source of permanent preocupation about  protection, orientation and accompanying of everyone who came to it and, specially, of the health professionals and students who work or do their apprenticeship there.
Objective: To verify the level of colonization, by MRSA, of the nasal cavities of medicine students, correlating it to the year of their courses.
Material and Methods: It is a field study, cross-sectional and descriptive, quantitative, realized in a school hospital in the city of São Paulo, in 2005.
Results: The results showed colonization of the nasal cavities of  the students, with greater incidence on the students of the fifth and sixth years of their courses.
Discussion: The results of the cultures of the materials collected from the nasal cavities of the students match the findings of Fioravante et al (2001), Zinderman et al  (2004) and Chaves et al (2004).
Conclusion: In this study we verified the colonization of the nasal cavities, by MRSA, in 26 (10,83%) of the students of  medicine and found thet exist a correlation between level of colonization and the year of the course, since we found that the incidence grows after the fifth year: third year – 5 (12,5%) students; fourth year -7 (17,5%) students and sixth year – 11 (27,5%) students.
