Wednesday, 15 July 2009: 1:45 PM-3:00 PM
Description/Overview: This symposium will highlight the work being done in an International Consortium to implement evidence-based practice at the point of care using a professional practice model. One coordinator from a Canadian site and one from the United states along with the Chairperson of the Consortium will represent over 240 clinical settings who are collectively working together to assure evidence-based practice is the norm for the patients they are privileged to serve. The focus will be on the nature of the work essential to implement evidence-based practice and the role of a framework to guide the work. The consortium has identified 10 fundamental elements essential to be present to achieve evidence based practice. The recent assessment of the strengths of the 10 fundamental elements within diverse rural, community and university settings provided by over 3000 clinicians practicing gives insights and a sense of important of the work needed to both create and sustain evidence based practice at the point-of-care. The clinical outcomes will be related to Canadian and American professional standards, federal, governmental, credentialing as well as JCAHO, Magnet, NQF and IHI initiatives. The lessons learned will be related to global collaborative efforts.
Learner Objective #1: The learner will be able to articulate the importance of a professional practice framework in Implementing Evidence-Based Practice.
Learner Objective #2: The learner will be able to correlate the 10 fundamental elements essential to achieve evidence based practice to the implementation process within the International Consortium.
