Description/Overview: This symposium will describe the results of 3 research project that address competency assessment in internationally educated nurses. Competency assessment that includes prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR), cultural competency, technology, and testing for the registration exam will be discussed. Various methods were used to measure outcomes and reflect the breadth and depth of competency assessment. We will focus on successes and lessons learned from the 3 projects. This will be an interactive symposium where attendees will be part of the discussion on challenges and opportunities of competency assessment.
